Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has described the coming month as “Hong Kong Super March”, listing a series of major events that will be held to push the city onto the global stage for arts, sports and entertainment.
So what are the events and how can you take part? The Post takes a look.
1. What is ‘Hong Kong Super March’?
City leader John Lee coined the term Hong Kong Super March to describe the month as the city will host various big events, including the opening of the city’s newest multipurpose venue, large-scale sports competitions and art shows.
Lee said on Tuesday the term was used because attractive cultural, arts and sporting events would “come one after the other”.
The term is a banner for a bigger catalogue of events compared with the same month last year, which the government branded as “Art March”.
2. What major events are coming?
Hong Kong Super March includes annual events as well as some taking place locally for the first time.
The month begins with the opening ceremony for the much-awaited Kai Tak Sports Park on March 1. The grand opening of the HK$30 billion venue, including its 50,000-seat stadium, will set the stage for many of the city’s coming concerts and sports competitions.
The park will host the World Snooker Grand Prix between March 4 and 9. The event at Kai Tak Arena will involve the season’s 32 top-ranked players, with the competition being hosted outside the UK for the first time.
At the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling, the LIV Golf Hong Kong competition is back this year between March 7 and 9.

More arts and culture events also take place in the latter half of March.
From March 21 to 23, the eagerly awaited pop culture festival ComplexCon Hong Kong returns to AsiaWorld-Expo on Lantau Island, with K-pop girl group NJZ as one of the highlights. Tickets quickly sold out despite an initial hiccup.
Between March 28 and 30, big arts and sports events take place simultaneously.
Two signature art shows are back. Art Central returns to the Central Harbourfront from March 26 to 30 while Art Basel Hong Kong will be held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai between March 28 and 30.
Arguably, the highlight of the month is the annual Hong Kong Sevens rugby competition. The upgraded flagship sporting event moves to the new Kai Tak Stadium for the first time, between March 28 and 30.
“We’re going to broaden the fan experience, there will be better hospitality and options,” Chris Brooke, chairman of Hong Kong, China Rugby, said earlier.
3. How is Hong Kong expected to benefit?
City leader Lee said Hong Kong Super March would bring tourists and economic benefits.
Pointing to the LIV Golf Hong Kong event, Lee said the 2024 edition attracted 40,000 attendees and brought economic benefits of about HK$200 million.
Lee forecast that an exhibition of the works of Pablo Picasso at the M+ museum, ComplexCon Hong Kong, Art Central and Art Basel would draw more than 400,000 attendees in total.
He also estimated that trade shows and conferences would draw about 120,000 high-value convention and exhibition visitors to the city.
“We expect that all the different mega-events in the first half of the year will draw about 840,000 tourists, which will bring Hong Kong about HK$3.3 billion in consumption, as well as bring in about HK$1.8 billion in value for the economy,” Lee said.

4. How can you take part?
Residents can take part in Hong Kong Super March simply by buying a ticket to the various events but you may need to act fast depending on which one you hope to attend.
For instance, the government said 8,500 tickets for the Kai Tak Sports Park opening ceremony will be sold for HK$10 each starting on Friday. Residents will be able to buy them from ticketing platform Urbtix.
