Hong Kong travellers take to skies again, with more and longer trips and higher spending, survey finds
- Survey by online travel agency Klook finds 94 per cent said they planned to travel at least once in the next year; 40 per cent said three or more trips planned
- Japan top pick for travel, with Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea and Europe next most popular
Hong Kong residents plan to take more holidays abroad, spend longer at their destinations and splash out more money while there compared with pre-pandemic levels, a survey has found.
Kenny Sham Ho-ki, Klook’s general manager, added a prolonged spell of high airfares as airlines continued to recover from the pandemic did not seem to have deterred people from travelling.
“Hongkongers are very smart. They have many ways of countering this. For example, they may choose less popular times to travel,” he explained.
“Or, if it is during peak season, they will choose under-the-radar cities so the fight for tickets is less fierce.”
Klook polled 3,412 people in June, and 96 per cent said they planned to travel at least once in the next 12 months, while 40 per cent said they expected go abroad three times or more.
