Health minister Lo Chung-mau, a co-chair of the group, said on Thursday proposals must be submitted before the end of the first quarter next year.

Education chief Christine Choi Yuk-lin will also serve as co-chair of the group that will help decide the framework for establishing the new institution and liaise with interested universities.

Expert advisers include former Chinese University head Professor Joseph Sung Jao-yiu and Chinese Medical Association president Professor Zhao Yupei.

Authorities said they would call on tertiary institutions to formally submit proposals.

“The task group intends to extend invitations for proposals within this year to local universities interested in establishing the new medical school, so as to select a suitable university for setting up the third medical school,” the government said.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu revealed the formation of the group in his policy address the day before.
