2 boars lead to temporary road closure in busy Hong Kong district

  • Section of northbound lane of Tai Po Road closed after police officer spots two boars at 10.10am

Two boars caused a temporary road closure in a busy Hong Kong district after they were spotted on Wednesday morning.

Police said an officer saw the animals at 10.10am around a bush while on patrol at the juncture of Tai Po Road and Nam Cheong Street in Sham Shui Po.

The two boars then walked to Sheung Li Uk Garden, located along Tai Po Road. Police officers closed the garden’s entrance and used long shields to guard against the animals.

Staff from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department arrived at the scene after 11am and anaesthetised the boars at around noon.

The two boars were female, and weighed 55kg and 25kg respectively, a department spokesman said.

A section of the northbound lane of Tai Po Road near Mei Ho House Youth Hostel was temporarily closed at one point due to the incident.
