Coronavirus: three Hong Kong Covid-19 cases involving mutated strains linked to Tung Chung mall
- Centre for Health Protection probe finds all three patients visited the Citygate Outlets shopping centre in Tung Chung on April 11

Hong Kong health officials have uncovered the missing link between three previously confirmed local Covid-19 cases involving mutated strains, saying all of the patients had visited a Tung Chung shopping centre.
With the city on heightened alert for more-infectious variants spreading in the community, authorities also ordered the evacuation of a Tsim Sha Tsui building on Monday evening after a housewife who returned from India about a month ago tested preliminary-positive for Covid-19 with the N501Y mutation.
The operation came as the Centre for Health Protection released its investigation into the three earlier cases with the N501Y mutation. It said it found all had visited Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung on April 11. Two had also patronised a restaurant, Curry Lounge, together on the ground floor of Seaview Crescent in Tung Chung on the same day.
The centre said a compulsory testing notice would be issued, requiring anyone who had been on either of the two premises on April 11 to undergo screening.
“In view of the threat posed by the mutant strain, it is imperative for people to get vaccinated,” the centre said.
