Coronavirus: Hong Kong woman tests preliminary positive for Covid-19 in possible break of 16-day streak of no local infections
- Woman with no recent travel history has been admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital
- At least three new imported cases from Pakistan have also been recorded
Hong Kong’s lengthy run without local contagion is under threat after a 34-year-old woman with no recent travel history tested preliminary positive for the coronavirus.
A source told the Post that the woman was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin, as of Saturday evening, and needed a ventilator.
Hong Kong was set to go 16 days without recording a local infection on Saturday, when the city confirmed at least three imported coronavirus infections, including a one-year-old, all from Pakistan.
Residents stranded overseas are returning to the city in phases, including about 1,100 from Pakistan.
Health officials said all three imported cases arrived in the city from Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR818 on Thursday. Some 16 of 83 passengers on board the aircraft have been confirmed to be infected.
Four flight attendants have been sent to a quarantine centre after they were identified as close contacts of the infected passengers, while eight others among the flight crew tested negative.
