Hongkongers are bracing the pouring rain to work on Wednesday morning as the Observatory issued an amber rainstorm warning at 7:35am, meaning heavy rain had fallen or was expected to fall generally over the city, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour, and was likely to continue.

It is the third amber rainstorm signal being raised in one week - the Observatory has issued the same warning last Wednesday and Sunday.

The observatory warned that flooding might occur in some low-lying and poorly drained areas and urged people who are likely to be affected to take necessary precautions.

“Heavy rain may bring flash floods. People should stay away from watercourses,” the statement reads.

An active southwesterly airstream will continue to bring unsettled weather to the South China coastal areas today. It would become very hot in Guangdong later this week as an anticyclone aloft over South China strengthens gradually.
