For senior students at Christian Alliance International School (CAIS), the month of May is a bittersweet time as they revel in the joy of receiving university acceptances while the apprehension of graduating high school dawns on them. The class of 2024 has already received a number of university offers from top institutions in Hong Kong and around the globe, including Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and USA.

In addition to traditionally sought-after disciplines such as law, computer science, business, mechanical engineering, and economics, this year’s graduating class is seeing a broad range of acceptances to undergraduate programs including kinesiology, psychology, neuroscience, medicine, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and music. Such remarkable results are a testament to the school’s diverse curriculum pathways. CAIS is accredited to provide the Alberta (Canada) Curriculum and offers Advanced Placement courses. It is also an IB World School, offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

Looking ahead to the 2024/25 academic year, CAIS is proposing a tuition increase of 3.4%, subject to the approval of the Education Bureau. Head of School of CAIS, Richard Vanderpyl says, “I hope this relieves any concerns the community and interested families might have, following an unfortunate incident where incorrect figures were erroneously reported by a local media.” He adds, “As a non-profit making organization, all tuition fees collected by the school are applied directly to the provision of equipment, resources, facilities, staffing and educational programming for students.” To ensure all families with financial need have the opportunity to apply for and receive assistance from the school, fee reduction and scholarships are available to eligible students.

Apart from academics and university acceptances, CAIS recently celebrated the extraordinary talents of its students as the musical production, Oliver! JR., was brought to the stage. As the cast members expressed after the closing performance, to a full house audience, they began with little singing and acting experience when they bravely went for auditions last November. It was through countless hours of learning, practicing, memorizing, and persevering that brought the production to the astounding level that the audience witnessed. Grade 12 student Natalie said casting a lead role in the musical was the perfect ending to her journey at CAIS, yet it would also be her final performance in the Alliance Hall.

In addition to holding chapel and performances, the Alliance Hall has marked some important occasions at CAIS, including the grand opening ceremony of the school’s Amenities Building.

The Alliance Hall is a world-class performance venue in the Amenities Building of CAIS. The venue, along with the school’s many facilities, presents an exciting and significant space for students to gain first-hand experience in performing arts and help shape the future of aspiring students who are keen to unleash their creative talents. Another highlight of the Amenities Building is the Centre of Innovation, a purpose-built laboratory and makerspace that empowers students to develop future-focus skills in different aspects of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math).
From STEAM Night in upper primary to STEAM Week in high school, there are many opportunities for students to strengthen their creativity and problem-solving skills.

As a Christian school, CAIS provides a learning community that embraces spiritual and biblical values. The school’s mission is to cultivate learners with knowledge, skills, integrity and discernment, growing in love for God and service to humanity. Vanderpyl says, “We are committed to supporting students with the highest standards in teaching and facilities within a safe, nurturing and student-centered environment for the pursuit of academic excellence and holistic personal development.”
