- CityU makes strongest improvement, jumping from 24th place to 16th
Four universities in Hong Kong have improved their rankings in a closely watched league table of Asia’s best tertiary institutions, while the city’s oldest campus held on to its No 4 spot for a fifth consecutive year.
The ranking organisation also noted Hong Kong had witnessed a surge in mainland Chinese students in the city’s institutions, but it did not spell out the impact brought on by such an increase.
In the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2023 released on Thursday, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) maintained its No 4 position for a fifth consecutive year.
Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) moved up from seventh to sixth, while the University of Science and Technology (HKUST) rose two spots from ninth to seventh.
Polytechnic University (PolyU) rose one spot to 14th and City University (CityU) made the strongest improvement, from 24th to 16th. Baptist University was not listed in the top 100 universities in Asia, after it fell to 91 last year.
The league table ranked 669 universities, up from 616 last year, across 31 regions.
“Hong Kong has long been home to some of the most international universities in the region, while that continues to be the case,” it said.
