A Queen’s College pupil has died after collapsing during a physical education lesson at the prestigious Hong Kong government secondary school on Tuesday.
The 12-year-old boy, who was in class 1D, was jogging inside the playground at the campus on Causeway Road when he passed out at about 11.30am.
The school called for an ambulance and administered first aid. He was later confirmed dead at Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai.
Initial police investigations have found no suspicious circumstances, and a postmortem is expected.
Ling Yuen-ting, the school’s assistant principal, said the boy had been deemed fit to attend PE, but did not expand beyond that.
In a letter to all parents, Ruth Yvetta Leung, the school’s principal, said a crisis management team had been activated, with educational psychologists, teachers and social workers ready to provide emotional support to the boy’s classmates.
