Paper Talk: Copycats move in after famous Hong Kong beancurd roll shop closes
One of the owners of Shu Kee - the famous shop on Yu Chau Street in Sham Shui Po that made beancurd rolls for more than 50 years but closed last year after a dispute between the brothers who own it - is suing another operator who opened a beancurd roll shop on the same street with a name that contained the Shu Kee characters. The new shop is being sued for copyright infringement after applying to register "Shu Kee" as a trademark. Meanwhile, another copycat shop has taken over the famous premises and claimed the old Shu Kee shop has reopened.
A woman cyclist was temporarily paralysed after being injured by the string of a giant sports kite being flown over the dam of the Plover Cove Reservoir in Tai Po on Saturday night. She fell to the ground with a neck wound measuring 10cm long and half-a-centimetre wide. She said a man told her: "Don't call police and I'll give you the medical fees." But when officers arrived, he denied responsibility and said the person who flew the kite had disappeared. The woman's son appealed for witnesses to step forward.
