Hong Kong’s public hospitals are overwhelmed by the recent surge in coronavirus infections, which means residents who test positive for the virus have to wait a few days before being admitted.

Health authorities have launched a new platform for Covid-19 patients to submit their positive rapid antigen test (RAT) results, which will now be counted as confirmed cases in the city’s official tally of coronavirus infections.

The platform went live at 6pm on March 7 via the website “www.chp.gov.hk/ratp”.

Alternatively, you can call the 1836 119 hotline and provide information including your phone and identity card numbers to register an infection, though officials said this process would be slower compared with the website.

In a bid to prevent the public health care system from collapsing, authorities have urged residents not to rush to hospital accident and emergency units even if they test positive using home kits.
