Just Saying | ‘Heat ray’ weapons to zap BLM protesters – whatever next?
- Yonden Lhatoo sympathises with US protesters and their harsh treatment at the hands of a government that goes out of its way to support their counterparts in Hong Kong instead

Seriously, what’s going on in the US? Are our American brothers and sisters doing OK? Because it sounds like H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds and George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four combined out there.
Remember that infamous episode back in June when law enforcement officers were accused of using tear gas, rubber bullets, pepper balls, smoke grenades, flash bangs and batons to force peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters out of Lafayette Square park in Washington DC?

As if that weren’t surreal enough, with Trump holding up a Bible – upside down – in a freakish display of power and piety, it now turns out they wanted to use a “heat ray” weapon on those pesky protesters, but couldn’t get hold of one. Perhaps Trump’s God wasn’t having any of it, in His name, at His house of worship.
Anyway, according to multiple media reports by the likes of The Washington Post, NBC News and others, military police had asked the National Guard about deploying the so-called Active Denial System, a military-designed weapon that uses microwave technology to zap you with an invisible beam of energy, causing such searing pain that it makes you feel like your skin is on fire. Think War of the Worlds, and the heat rays that the Martians fired from their giant tripods to disintegrate hapless Earthlings scurrying for safety below.
