Ghostly white lady turns out to be crash victim
A passenger on a bus running on the Island Eastern Corridor near City Garden – a housing project in North Point – in the small hours of last Saturday was terrified to see a long-haired woman dressed in white squatting on the kerb. At first glance he thought it was a ghost, but then spotted a damaged BMW sedan nearby. The woman, 23, was injured and awaiting medical help after losing control of the car and hitting the kerb.

Teacher suspended for touting after-class tutorials
A 12-week substitute teacher at the Fresh Fish Traders’ School in Tai Kok Tsui was suspended from duty after parents complained he had got their phone numbers from their children and persuaded them to hire him as a private tutor. After suspending him, principal Sze Chi-king urged parents to better protect their personal data. He also reported the matter to police, the Education Bureau and the Privacy Commissioner.

Bargain fashion brands for green shoppers
Our priority is recycling old clothes rather than making money, says Michelle Lai, a manager at St James’ Settlement, a charity that runs a second-hand shop in Wan Chai called Green Ladies. Lai said the clothes were of high quality, in season, and included famous brands such as DKNY and Zara. Each item cost HK$88 to HK$120, depending on condition, design and material. However, Lai said she did not want customers to buy too many on the pretext of protecting the environment.

Restaurant scales fixed to cheat customers
Seafood restaurants in Nanao in the Longgang district of Shenzhen used a hidden device to cheat customers by changing the weight of items shown on electronic scales. Reporters uncovered the scam by posing as customers. They also found the scales and cheating device – concealed inside a calculator or simply kept in the hand of staff – could be bought for about HK$3,000.

Flights to Korea up for grabs for only HK$888
Plane tickets to various parts of South Korea, including shooting locations of the popular TV drama series Descendants of the Sun, went on sale for as little as HK$888. Six airlines began the sale from 10am on a first come, first served basis. A spokesman for the Korea Tourism Organisation, which launched the promotion, said customers could also enjoy a four-day portable Wi-fi service.

70-year-old private college seeks university status
Chu Hai College of Higher Education, a 70-year-old private higher educational institution, has applied to the Education Bureau to become a private university. Lee Chack-fan, vice-chairman of the board of governors, said a campus in Tuen Mun would be completed in the summer and put into use in September. Lee said they were preparing programmes in aviation services and tourism management.
