British police are urgently seeking a Hongkonger who failed to turn up at court in Oxford, before being found guilty in absentia on sexual assault offences. Investigators believe Joseph Tsang may have fled the city.

The dual national was found guilty last Tuesday on two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault.

Police are investigating reports that he may have fled to the Charing Cross area in London.

Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Katy Barrow-Grint of the vulnerable people protection unit with Thames Valley police said: "It is possible that he has fled the Oxford area and could even be abroad, potentially in Hong Kong, where he has family ties, or elsewhere in Asia."

Hannah Jones, a Thames Valley police spokeswoman, added: "We believe [Tsang] has dual nationality, but we have his British passport. But there's intelligence to suggest he may also have a Chinese passport."

It is unclear whether this is a mainland or a Hong Kong passport.
