Hong Kong teacher rescued from Mount Everest after deadliest avalanche kills 17 climbers
Second time Ada Tsang Yin-hung has been caught in an avalanche on Mount Everest
A Hong Kong teacher trapped in the Mount Everest base camp following an avalanche triggered by Saturday’s massive earthquake in Nepal was on her way to hospital for a check-up on Sunday, her former student said.
Ada Tsang Yin-hung, a life education teacher at CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School in Ma On Shan, was at the base camp when the 7.9-magnitude quake shook Nepal. She was planning to trek the mountain along with several women from China.
The avalanche is Everest’s deadliest, killing 17 climbers.
“Ada was picked up by helicopter and is now going to hospital,” Juno Lee Chun-lung told the South China Morning Post, adding that he did not know her condition as available information was limited.
However, Hong Kong’s Immigration Director Eric Chan Kwok-ki said that Tsang was one of two Hongkongers found safe but injured. He added that seven Hongkongers were still missing in Nepal, and officers were trying to locate them. It was understood another of those rescued was a 55-year-old man, who was injured during the quake and had been discharged from hospital.
A Facebook page set up by her students also confirmed that Tsang was now safe, saying she had sustained minor injuries to her scalp.
