Riding on the coattails of Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah’s food truck scheme, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department yesterday revealed its plan for an “arts truck” to be rolled out.

The plan, according to the department, is to “deliver museums” to residents – namely disenfranchised communities and students – who may otherwise find the city’s museums inaccessible.

Instead of a truck however, the museum will come in the form of a bus – giving it the portmanteau name “Art Buseum”.

“Recently there’s been a lot of talk about the food truck concept. This will be an arts truck, but in the form of a bus,” said department director Michelle Li Mei-sheung.

“We hope to target schools first … and enter deep into the community to promote art appreciation in the remoter parts of town.”

The department said it was still working out details on cost, design and budget but the modified bus – which has not been procured – is expected to visit its first school in September.
