The man known as the father of Hong Kong rock 'n' roll is claiming more than HK$1 million following a traffic accident that caused him to cancel a series of concerts in Hong Kong and the United States.

Ng Chi-kwan, better known by his stage name Danny Summer, is seeking HK$1,174,856 from the owner and driver of a minibus that crashed into his car on December 6, 2008.

The amount covers his physical and mental injuries, loss of opportunities to enhance his reputation, money spent on the preparation of the concerts and his performance fees for the US concerts.

According to the writ filed with the High Court, Ng's car collided with a minibus in Clear Water Bay in 2008. He was treated at United Christian Hospital and Tseung Kwan O Hospital.

Ng told the Court of First Instance yesterday that his right arm was injured and he suffered numbness in his fingers. For a short time after the accident, he could only walk with a stick.

The court heard that because of the injuries, Ng had to cancel a concert to be held in the city on Christmas Eve in 2008, and two concerts in the US on December 31 and January 1, 2009. Ng rejected defence lawyers' suggestions that he had exaggerated his injuries as most of the symptoms he described in court were not in his medical records.
