Many of the women working as cleaners and cooks at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou are rural migrants, according to the news portal Thepaper.cn.

The event was part of the “beautiful because of you” campaign organised by university students to express their thanks to the women and boost their self-confidence.

Some of the women who took advantage of the latest offer, which also offered them an opportunity to dress up in designer clothes, said they had never worn make-up before in their lives.

“I have always kept my head down when working on the campus. I never thought that I could wear make-up and dress so beautifully on campus,” Wen Feng, one of the workers, told the site.
