University students in northeast China have invented a device that can turn the pages of a book with just the blink of an eye.
The invention, which uses brain-sensing technology, could make it easier for people with disabilities to read books in an “intelligent and humane” way, Qi Huanqiang, one of the students, told China News Service.
Qi demonstrated the device as part of an exhibition at Changchun University of Science and Technology on Wednesday, wearing a headband with a sensor that communicated with the gadget to turn a page in a book every time he blinked.
The team of five students are from the university’s electrical information and engineering school in the Jilin provincial capital and say they came up with the system in a week.
Qi said the headband detected brain waves and turned them into digital signals that were then sent to the page-flipping device using Bluetooth, according to the report.
He said it was inexpensive and could help a range of people including the elderly, conductors and pianists.
