The fire broke out at about 3am on Saturday in the Shapingba district of Chongqing after electrical appliances began exploding one after another in the house, the girl’s mother Lai Rongqing said.

The girl, Jiajia, suffered third-degree burns to about half her body as well as severe respiratory injuries.

It is likely that she will have both arms amputated and faces years of subsequent surgery.

Lai said she woke up to find the living room on fire, and promptly woke up her husband, mother-in-law and her Jiajia.
