A surgeon from northern China who fractured her right leg is still performing operations and seeing patients on crutches because she doesn’t want to let down the people in her care, according to a newspaper report.

Fan Weidong works at a chest hospital in Henan province and broke her leg hurrying to help a patient who had a heart attack, the Zhengzhou Evening News reported.

She returned to work with her leg in plaster earlier this month and carries out about 10 operations a day, according to the article.

She has to wear heavy protective lead-rubber clothing during surgery and is also unable to use her crutches in the operating room.

“I can keep going. There are other doctors in the theatre and we can cooperate,” Fan was quoted as telling the newspaper.
