Villagers in northeastern China dispatched their goats to remove 25 tonnes of spilt corn blocking a road on Thursday morning, mainland media reports.

A truck carrying 60 tonnes of the grain lost nearly half its load on National Road 203 after a latch beneath the vehicle broke in Shenyang, Lioaning province, the news site Gmw.cn reported.

Villagers nearby swarmed to collect the windfall and some brought along their goats to help.

The owners of the corn shovelled what remained into piles along the road before bagging them.

According to China’s Property Law, passers-by do not have the right to take what falls off trucks. Nonetheless, there are frequent stories of local residents in China grabbing the spoils of cargo lost from mostly ageing and poorly maintained trucks.
