Xi Jinping’s father the subject of new historical drama on state television
TV series tells the story of Xi Zhongxun’s life, from the son of poor farmers in rural northwest China to communist revolutionary
The first episode of Time in the Northwest will make its debut during prime time on CCTV’s main channel, according to a trailer aired on Sunday.
It said the series highlighted Xi Zhongxun’s efforts to mobilise support for a revolutionary base in Yanan, Shaanxi, to address ethnic and religious issues in the region, and to drive economic development.
The series is set against the backdrop of the failed First United Front – an alliance between the party and the Kuomintang – and the building of the party’s revolutionary bases in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.
Xi Zhongxun is portrayed as loyal to the party, committed to his beliefs, pragmatic and deeply connected to the masses, according to the report.
