Shanghai investigates Covid-positive alleged illegal border-crosser from Hong Kong
- More than 15,000 people tested in Shanghai after passenger takes train to metropolis from Zhuhai in the country’s south
- Authorities on alert as Hong Kong wrestles with thousands of new cases of the coronavirus each day
The person entered the mainland on Sunday and arrived in Shanghai the next day by high-speed train from the southern city of Zhuhai in Guangdong province, according to the Shanghai health commission.
Guangdong authorities alerted Shanghai on Wednesday about the suspected illegal crossing and Shanghai officials isolated the person, who then tested positive for the coronavirus.
More than 15,000 people had been tested and 550 environmental samples related to the case collected as of Friday morning, with all samples returning negative, according to Shanghai authorities.
