President Xi Jinping has told the Communist Party’s top disciplinary watchdog to take a “zero tolerance” approach to corruption and make sure cadres closely follow Beijing’s policy decisions.

Xi made the remarks at a meeting of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) in Beijing on Tuesday, according to state news agency Xinhua.
The gathering – setting the direction of the watchdog’s work this year – was attended by all members of the policymaking Politburo Standing Committee.
The Chinese leader’s remarks echoed those made at a Central Party School study session last week, when he warned provincial and ministerial officials there would be “no mercy” for corruption.
It comes ahead of the party’s national congress to be held in autumn, during which a major leadership reshuffle is expected.
On Tuesday, Xi said the anti-corruption campaign over the past decade since he took power in 2012 had made “historic and groundbreaking achievements”.
