Covid-19 in China: Guangdong outbreak spreads to new city
- A 24-year-old woman in Zhongshan who tested positive after attending a fever clinic is the first positive case outside Shenzhen in the current outbreak
- Travel restrictions have been imposed in Tanzhou town and the nearby cities of Zhuhai and Macau have imposed control measures
The 24-year-old woman from Tanzhou town tested positive on Thursday a day after going to a local hospital’s fever clinic for treatment, the local authorities said.
She has been sent to a hospital for quarantine and treatment, as authorities investigate her close contacts and disinfect her workplace and residential areas.
Several bus services in Tanzhou have been suspended and travel restrictions imposed on local residents, which mean that anyone wanting to travel outside the town must present a negative nucleic acid test result taken in the last 48 hours.
Large-scale gatherings, including exhibitions, shows and conferences, have been suspended.
After the positive test was announced, Zhuhai, the neighbouring city to Zhongshan, announced mass screening for residents in three districts and ordered spas, cinemas, gyms and other commercial venues to close.
Macau has also announced preventive measures, requiring anyone entering the city who has visited the woman’s residential area to quarantine for at least seven days.
