Gas blast causes fire at luxury apartments in Chinese city of Shenzhen
One dead but no other fatalities or injuries reported after blaze caused extensive damage at one of the city’s most exclusive addresses
A gas blast at a luxury apartment in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen caused a major fire that spread to several floors in the complex on Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews raced to the scene to evacuate residents and tackle the blaze, which was fully put out three hours after it started at 3pm.
The accident resulted in one fatality, with no other injuries reported. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident.
Earlier medical personnel confirmed that one person had fallen from the building.
Eyewitnesses said a woman appeared to have fallen out of a window after losing consciousness in a harrowing scene captured on video.
Rescue teams began evacuating residents through a platform on the fifth floor, which provides access to the residential areas.
