A Chinese woman has given birth to identical quadruplet girls in Shanghai, mainland media reports.

The mother with the surname of Wu, 29, and her daughters, who were born last Friday, are all in a stable condition at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital of Fudan University, China News Service reported.

Doctors said the quadruplets were born prematurely, when they had reached only 29 weeks old, so they would need to remain in intensive care for a few more days.

The mother, who has previously given birth to a son and a daughter, became pregnant with the quadruplets naturally.
