Amateur Chinese inventor builds humanoid robot

A self-taught Chinese inventor, Tao Xiangli,  has built the home-made robot, named "The King of Innovation", out of scrap metal and electronic wires that he bought from a second-hand market.

Tao completed his creation in less than a year, with costs of production and living expenses amounting to 300,000 yuan (HK$380,000 ). However, the robot, which measures 2.1 metres in height and 480 kg  in weight, turned out to be too tall and heavy to walk out of the front door of his house.

"The King of Innovation" can perform simple movements with its hands and legs and also mimic human voices.

Tao, a 35-year-old Beijing-based migrant worker from Anhui province, has become an internet sensation since word began to spread two years ago of his unusual hobby - building submarines.
