South Korean park releases photos of 1-month-old twin panda cubs
- The twins will be named when they are 100 days old and are expected to take their first steps at around four months
- At around six months, the babies will be available to meet visitors at Everland Panda World, the country’s largest theme park
The organisation on Monday released photos taken on Saturday, the day before they turned 30 days old. The much-celebrated twins were visibly plumper, had more fur and bore the distinctive black markings around their eyes, ears, shoulders, arms and legs.
The female twins were born on July 7 at the park, to mother Ai Bao and father Le Bao. They weighed 180 grams and 140 grams, respectively. Both Ai Bao and her two cubs are in good health.
As part of their 30-day health checkup, the twin pandas weighed 1.1kg and 1.2kg, respectively, marking a remarkable sixfold and eightfold increase in weight over the course of one month.
The twin pandas also recently achieved their first successful attempts at rolling over.
“Drawing from Ai Bao’s parenting experience with South Korea’s first baby panda, Fu Bao, she is adeptly caring for the twin pandas,” an Everland zookeeper said. “We are adjusting feeding frequency and formula quantities based on the twin pandas’ health and growth stages.”
The twins will be named once they reach 100 days old.
