A Thai court on Thursday sentenced a British kickboxer to 25 years in jail for the murder of a former US Marine on a resort island in 2010.
The Phuket provincial court found Lee Aldhouse guilty of stabbing to death ex-Marine Dashawn Longfellow after being beaten by the American during a brawl at a Phuket bar.
The court reduced Aldhouse’s sentence from life because he pleaded guilty.
Aldhouse was a semi-professional kickboxer who fought under the nickname 'Pitbull'. He had been living on-and-off in Phuket, where 23-year-old Longfellow was also studying the sport while vacationing in Thailand.
Aldhouse was extradited to Thailand last year after his appeal had been rejected by Britain’s High Court, making him the first criminal suspect ever extradited from England to the Southeast Asian country under a 1911 extradition treaty.
He was arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport in 2010 after fleeing Thailand shortly after Longfellow’s body was found with several stab wounds in his chest.
