Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos – the world’s richest man – owns a 12 per cent stake in the US technology company, Amazon, worth about US$114.8 billion following his divorce from his former wife, MacKenzie.

Yet despite his wealth, in 1999 Bezos was still driving a 1996 Honda Accord – two years after the e-commerce company went public.

When asked about his vehicle of choice in a 1999 episode of the US TV programme 60 Minutes, the American said: “This is a perfectly good car.”

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the car in 1996 was US$17,890.
