Swift has made her fair share of friends and foes since her first step into the industry at the age of 14, so it’s no surprise that her guest list includes up to 1,200 guests, according to TMZ. Who we can expect, though, are some of Swift’s closest pals, the Haim sisters (also known as the pop-rock band Haim): Este, Danielle and Alana Haim.

Swift and two-thirds of Haim, Este and Alana, were recently seen courtside at the NBA Finals hosted at Madison Square Garden, donning striking blue tees featuring New York Knicks-related puns like “Stevie Knicks”, “Knickole Kidman” and “Knickelback”. The group’s excitement was palpable as they cheered and leapt from their seats, matching the energy of Knicks fans across the city.

Days later, Swift was spotted leaving Electric Lady Studios in New York, closely followed by Alana and Danielle, fuelling speculation about a possible music recording session. Netizens also speculated that the singers were attending a birthday party for Rachel Antonoff, the sister of Swift’s producer, Jack Antonoff, with other celebrities allegedly seen at the studio too.

But how exactly did Swift and Haim become friends in the first place? Their friendship actually spans over a decade, and the group has been close for years since their first interaction in 2013. How did Taylor Swift and the Haim sisters meet?

In 2013, when Swift was fresh out of her relationship with singer Harry Styles, per Daily Mail, Haim mentioned Swift at the now-defunct mtvU Woodie Awards, sending her a message saying, “TT Swift, don’t date someone else. Come out with us and we will party and we will be together as girls, be merry and we don’t need guys. Girl power.”

And the girls did just that the following year: Swift and Haim hung out after the 2014 American Music Awards along with Selena Gomez, Lorde and Karlie Kloss.

Haim was a surprise collaborator on Taylor Swift’s album, Evermore

Swift shocked fans around the world at the end of 2020 when she suddenly announced the release of her ninth studio album, Evermore. Fans were also surprised to find that the Haim sisters were involved, collaborating on the track “No Body, No Crime”. Este even had her own character in the song named after her.
