Meet Donovan Colan, who plays Hunter Cooper in Apple TV’s Your Friends & Neighbors

The rising star, who plays Jon Hamm’s son on the show and won an award for 2025’s The Dogs, went to the same art school as Timothée Chalamet and Jennifer Aniston
Hamm portrays Andrew “Coop” Cooper, a divorced former hedge fund manager who starts stealing from his wealthy neighbours to maintain his lavish lifestyle after getting fired from his job. The show’s second season sees the return of its original cast – including Donovan Colan, who plays Coop’s teenage son Hunter Cooper.

So who is the actor behind Hunter Cooper in Your Friends & Neighbors? Here’s the lowdown on Donovan Colan.
When did Donovan Colan start acting?

Colan, 16, spent his childhood in South Orange, New Jersey. He followed in the footsteps of his older sister and joined Summit Playhouse, a local community theatre group, when he was just six despite being introverted, according to NJ.com. When he was eight, his family relocated to Nova Scotia, Canada, where he continued to act in short films and plays.
In an interview with the local news outlet, Colan said he gravitated towards acting because of his shyness. “That’s why I love acting, because you can embody another person and be able to actually truly bring your own personality into that character and create this whole kind of alternate reality in which your character is you,” he explained.

Colan previously starred as Jake in Spirit Halloween, a 2022 movie set in the Jersey-based retail chain. He told NJ.com that he was “terrified” to take a lead role in the film, but is glad he did.
