Meet the author of the books behind Heated Rivalry – Rachel Reid

The Canadian author grew up obsessed with ice hockey and wrote the books in part to address the homophobia in the sport

Here’s what you need to know about the author behind everyone’s new favourite show, Rachel Reid.
She is a major ice hockey fan

Rachel Reid, whose real name is Rachelle Goguen, was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada. Growing up, her passion for ice hockey ran deep but due to the lack of girls’ hockey leagues, she took power-skating lessons and joined any boys’ camp that would accept her. “I would do just about anything that allowed me to put on hockey gear and hold a stick,” Reid said in an interview with the Toronto Star.
While Reid never had a professional ice hockey career, she did work at a Canadian paper called The Coast and began writing Game Changers, the first book in the series, on her iPad to pass the time while putting her two sons to sleep. She submitted the book to publishers, keeping this a secret from even her husband, and its publication in 2018 coincided with the trend of ice hockey romance novels.
