Cartier feels the Hong Kong-born idol, who has a solo album titled Journey to the West due out soon, has the right spirit to represent its Juste un Clou collection

After collaborating with Italian fashion brand Fendi, K-pop idol Jackson Wang has now been tapped as the face of Cartier’s Juste un Clou collection and stars in a series of new campaign videos launched by the French maison in July.

Hong Kong-born and raised, Wang was tapped by a South Korean entertainment company for a career in K-pop in 2011 and joined the hugely successful GOT7 in 2014. The 25-year-old has defied stereotypes in following his own path, a quality that Cartier felt reinterprets the spirit of the collection, which features the individualistic curved nail.

Wang now splits his time between working on GOT7 projects in South Korea and working towards his own solo career in mainland China. Despite being based in the mainland, the multilingual Wang is aiming not at the huge Chinese market but at the US with his English language debut album, “Journey to the West”.

“It’s not about [breaking into the American market]. I just want to take what I’ve been doing, and what I will do, to an international platform to share with people so they see that this guy, this Chinese dude, this Chinese kid, is trying really hard with his music, he’s trying to share his stories, his experiences,” he told music bible Billboard magazine in April.

“I wasn’t a music guy originally. I was an athlete. All those stories about going for your dreams, making them come true, working for those dreams, I’m just trying to share stories like that.”

With the new campaigns and his new album, it looks like the K-pop idol is gearing up well for a life that allows him to be more than just a member of GOT7.
