Korea’s Song-Song couple, K-drama stars Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, rank among the country’s best-loved celebrity couples. Fans were shocked when the pair announced their divorce, in separate statements.
As the world of K-drama comes to terms with the end of their relationship, here’s a flashback of their romantic but short-lived relationship.
The two actors met while filming the smash-hit television series Descendants of the Sun in 2016.
Joong-ki played Yoo Si-jin, the captain of a special force unit in the army, while Hye-kyo portrayed Kang Mo-yeon, a doctor who falls in love with him.
In early 2017, rumours that the pair were together began to fly. In March that year, an internet user claimed he had spotted the couple in New York.
But the agencies of both stars denied that the two were in a relationship, saying, “They are just close friends.”
In June, a Chinese media outlet reported that the couple were on a trip together in Bali, Indonesia. The stars again denied their relationship. But a month later, they announced that they were getting married in October.
