Why are K-pop girl group f(x)’s fans confused by Sulli’s decision to release solo album Goblin?

- On her departure from f(x) in August 2015, Sulli said she wanted to ‘focus on acting rather than singing’
Sulli, an ex-member of K-pop girl group f(x), announced the release of her new solo album “Goblin”, on Monday. There was a mixed reaction from fans to her change of direction, as Sulli had said she left the group to focus on her career as an actress.
Sulli will release her new special album “Goblin” on June 29, her agency SM Entertainment announced on Monday. The release consists of three tracks, Goblin, Sailor Moon and Dorothy. Sulli helped to write the lyrics for all three songs.
However Sulli’s sudden change of mind to embark on a solo career has confused fans who have been waiting for f(x) to reunite.
“I thought Sulli went out from the group because she didn't want to sing. I don't understand why she is suddenly coming back as a solo singer,” one Twitter user wrote.
Another user said, “I have been waiting for years for f(x) to return, and they are releasing a solo for Sulli? I blame the agency.”
Sulli had been a member of f(x) from 2009 until August 2015. On her departure, she said she wanted to “focus on acting rather than singing”. Fans were disappointed, but supported her new career choice.
Sulli’s departure from f(x) reduced the girl band to four members, and they only took part in short-term projects. The group’s last official album was “4 Walls/ COWBOY” which was released in Japan in 2016.
The remaining members pursued their own solo careers – Luna and Amber released solo albums, Crystal branched out into acting and Victoria worked as a celebrity in China.
