K-pop star Xiumin of the South Korean-Chinese boy band EXO will become the first Korean member of the nine-member group to start his mandatory military service on May 7.

“Xiumin will join the army and serve active duty,” SM Entertainment, his agency, said on Tuesday.

The place and time of his enlistment will not be disclosed, it said.

 
“I will stay healthy [in the army] and come back,” Xiumin, 29, whose real name is Kim Min-seok, wrote on EXO’s official fan site.

“I will be back after throwing concerts [in Japan], so please wait for me.”

Xiumin, who made his debut with EXO in 2012, will perform at the “EXO-CBX ‘MAGICAL CIRCUS’ 2019 Special Edition” shows on April 16, 17 and 27 to 29 in Japan.
