Apple’s new Singapore floating store is a sure-fire Instagram hotspot – a giant apple in the water next to Marina Bay Sands

Following Instagrammable statement stores in Hong Kong and alongside the Chicago River, trendsetting London architects Foster + Partners have unveiled plans for a giant multicoloured dome, plopped in the midst of The Lion City’s tourist nerve centre
Phones at the ready – Apple is soon to open its first-ever floating store in Singapore and it’s sure to be a hit with Instagramers.
The domed structure – resembling a floating apple, no less – is located beside the Marina Bay Sands hotel and has been designed by Foster + Partners, the London-based architects founded by Norman Foster. There’s not an official opening date for Apple Marina Bay Sands just yet, but the store is expected to open soon.
“Apple Marina Bay Sands is coming soon to Singapore, celebrating the first Apple store in the world that sits on the water,” an Apple spokesman told The Straits Times on August 24. “As with every Apple store around the world, Apple Marina Bay Sands will bring the best of Apple to our customers, at an iconic location in Singapore.”
This won‘t be the first time that stretch of water has been used for a floating structure. From 2011 to 2016, the lot was occupied by Avalon, a large nightclub.
This is going to be Apple‘s third store in Southeast Asia’s island city state, but it’s far from the first Apple store to feature a creative design or attention-drawing location.
For example, in September 2011, Apple opened a two-story store in Hong Kong‘s premiere shopping district that features a glass spiral staircase, while in October 2017 they unveiled a new store along the Chicago River, a popular tourist destination in the Windy City. Foster + Partners were involved in both locations, as well as many other Apple stores worldwide.
