Drake spent US$400,000 on a bed – would you? Hästens’ bedtime collaboration with Canadian designer Ferris Rafauli, under the covers
Ferris Rafauli, the award-winning designer behind rapper Drake’s Toronto mansion, has collaborated with premium Swedish bedmakers Hästens to produce its most exclusive bed to date – but how much would you really pay for a good night’s sleep?
What: Hästens Grand Vividus bed
HOW MUCH: HK$3.02 million (US$390,000)
WHY: Ferris Rafauli, the award-winning designer and artist behind rapper Drake’s 50,000 square foot mansion in his hometown Toronto, has collaborated with premium Swedish bedmakers Hästens to produce its most exclusive bed to date.
Hand-built at the Hästens factory in Köping, Sweden, the Grand Vividus is layered with more horsetail hair, wool, cotton, flax and slow-growing Swedish pine than any of its predecessors. As a result, the bed – which comes with three different mattress tensions – weighs a staggering 530kg and offers an incomparable trip to the land of nod.
Although Hästens has more than 160 years of experience creating some of the most luxurious handcrafted beds in the world, the team specifically trained under a Swedish master saddle maker for the Grand Vividus, incorporating traditional materials such as burnished leather, suede and metal.
Rafauli’s expertise in interior architecture and haute couture can also be seen in the continental bed, which combines functionality with an ultra-luxurious aesthetic appeal. Four colour options are available: Black Shadow, Phantom Charcoal, Natural Slate and Traditional Blue.
The mattress fabric features Hästens iconic check pattern, as well as its horse insignia – almost a shame to cover it up with sheets. So, if you decide to order yourself this US$3-million-dollar mattress, you can trick out your boudoir like Drake; his bed is the Natural Slate Grand Vividus with bedding featuring an Alexander McQueen hummingbird motif.
