  • For those born in the Years of the Dog, Ox and Rabbit, wear an animal talisman such as the Louis Vuitton’s Vivienne Rooster Pendant or Cartier’s Panthère de Cartier range
  • These accessories make great gifts even if your zodiac does not clash with the dragon – such as Tiffany & Co.’s Woven Key collection, inspired by the Chinese rope knot

Lunar New Year is about celebrating prosperity and cultivating good luck, but there’s also the tradition of protecting oneself from bad omen and harm. In any particular year, some Chinese zodiac signs may not jive with the zodiac animal of that year. This is known as Fan Tai Sui, or clashing with the Grand Duke of Jupiter. This can mean anything from losing money and fortune to taking hard hits on one’s career or health.
As a rule of thumb, those whose zodiacs coincide with the year’s animal are automatically in conflict with Tai Sui. This means that in the coming Year of the Dragon, those born in the Year of the Dragon and those born in the Year of the Dog, Ox and Rabbit will have to keep an eye out for bad luck.

There are several ways to mitigate this. You can cancel this bad energy with an auspicious event such as getting married, giving birth, having a big birthday celebration or making a major purchase such as a flat. You can also pay your respects to Tai Sui at the temples.

But one easy and fun way to keep bad luck at bay is to identify the zodiac that protects you, then wear a talisman in the animal’s likeness. Some may wish to carry a picture in their wallet or set their lucky zodiac animal as their phone’s wallpaper. But what better reason do you need to buy a piece of jewellery or a watch for good luck, prosperity and great health?

Here, we take a look at what accessories will help bring good fortune to the four zodiac signs that need it the most in the Year of Dragon, according to fortune teller Mak Ling-ling’s 2024 annual fortune book.

Dragons born in 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000 and 2012 are celebrating their cycle this year, which means it’s been a full 12 years since the last time we celebrated it. The rooster is the dragon’s lucky star; its spirited features and red crown evoke a sense of positive energy.

To keep bad luck at bay, consider Louis Vuitton’s Vivienne Rooster Pendant, created in a mix of yellow, white and pink gold. Vuitton’s adorable Vivienne has a beautiful head of feathers in pink and red lacquer and diamonds. A total of 26 red spinels add sparkle and cheery energy.
