Few maisons have a history as intertwined with an art form as Chopard and cinema. Its annual Red Carpet collection coincides with the Cannes Film Festival and celebrates the glamour and the prestige of the cinematic world.

The partnership was established in 1998, and the maison has been accessorising some of the world’s biggest stars on the red carpet ever since. Each year, artistic director Caroline Scheufele unveils a striking high jewellery collection in conjunction with the launch of the festival.
Under Scheufele’s creative vision, Chopard also redesigned the prestigious and highly coveted Palme d’Or award – the festival’s highest prize, awarded for best film – with the stylised palm frond that has become near-synonymous with the festival itself.

Chopard often takes inspiration from cinematic history to interpret delicate art forms in the Red Carpet collection – from Cinderella’s glass slipper and pumpkin carriage to Charlie Chaplin’s black and white era – and otherworldly ethereal designs inspired by the Garden of Eden.

Julia Roberts, Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Fan Bingbing are some of the many stars to have worn Chopard on the red carpet in recent years.
Chopard has a long history with the Cannes Film Festival
To mark the 76th iteration of the festival, which took place between May 16 and May 27, Scheufele unveiled a 76-piece high jewellery collection that celebrates not only cinema, but seven disparate art forms – including architecture, sculpture, painting, music, literature and dance – considered the upper echelons of human creativity. This year also marks the 25th year of partnership between the film festival and the storied jewellery house.
Chopard uses the most refined craftsmanship

Scheufele’s creative flair and inspirations combined with the maison’s rich artistic heritage results in unique, one-of-a-kind high jewellery pieces.

Take, for instance, her love of travel, which inspired a pair of 127-carat yellow sapphire earrings supported by a group of antique-style sculptures carved in gold and set with brilliant cut diamonds.

In other pieces, diamonds and sapphires create a delicate feathering effect to form volutes in a pair of earrings and a brooch inspired by ancient literature and as an ode to authorship.

Elsewhere in the collection, a choker draws inspiration from music, with rows of diamonds representing the lines of a musical score.

Dance inspires a necklace and matching pair of earrings, featuring diamond corollas to echo the delicate, weightless shape of a ballerina’s tutu.

An ode to the decorative arts, the butterfly ring draws upon a broad palate of colourful gems, representing the graduating tones of a masterly painting.

The free-flowing nature of the butterfly pays tribute to Scheufele’s love of nature – one of her biggest sources of inspiration.
Caroline Scheufele is a fan of precious stones.

Architectural art forms give rise to a clean-cut, symmetrical necklace in tinted titanium and tanzanite with a 32-carat pear-shaped gem.

Staying true to its original creative inspiration, the world of cinema gives rise to unique designs. Scheufele selected a crescent moon pendant, representative of the requisite darkness – both literal and metaphorical – needed for someone to fully immerse in the depths of a film.

Scheufele’s creative spirit shines through in the use of unconventional materials such as titanium, as well as her willingness to experiment with stone cutting techniques and production processes.
