Disney’s new Snow White movie, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, didn’t quite get the magic treatment for its premiere. According to Variety, the film, about to be released, was afforded only a modest launch at Los Angeles’ El Capitan Theatre a few days ago – and the event was covered by no more than a handful of photographers.

This live-action reinterpretation of the Disney classic has been mired in controversy ever since it was announced. Netizens accused the film of “wokeism” for casting a Latina actress in the titular role and it was also hit by political hostility. Zegler voiced her support for the Free Palestine Movement, while Gadot backed Israel; both felt the backlash. Zegler also faced criticism for reacting to Donald Trump’s re-election as US president by writing on Instagram, “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace,” for which she later apologised.

Amid all the hullabaloo, one cast member has managed to remain relatively distant from the spotlight – Andrew Burnap, who plays Snow White’s love interest, Jonathan. Burnap was also noticeably missing from the movie’s LA premiere.

Taking to Instagram, the star explained that he was unable to attend the event because he was starring in Othello on Broadway, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Denzel Washington.

“So bummed to be missing our premiere of Snow White today, but a three-show weekend here at @othellobway calls – all my love and thanks to those in LA and around the world who helped bring this to life – what a joy it was to make,” Burnap wrote on his Instagram Story.

So what do we know about him?
