Meet Florence Pugh’s talented sisters, Arabella and Rafaela: vocal coach Arabella helped her We Live in Time star sibling with her Lady Macbeth role, while Raffie was a child actress
‘We’re like the Von Trapps, but not quite as pretty or perfect,’ the Dune: Part Two star once said – the Pugh siblings all followed their ballet-dancing mother into the performing arts
Raised between Oxfordshire, UK, and the south of Spain by a restaurateur father, the siblings often helped out at the family’s restaurant. They’ve all spent time in the kitchen – Florence in particular has showcased her culinary talents in many a YouTube video. But it was perhaps their mother’s former career as a ballet dancer, together with their unique upbringing, that inspired all of Florence’s siblings to pursue the arts from a young age.
“We’re like the Von Trapps, but not quite as pretty or perfect,” Florence joked in an interview with The Guardian in 2018.
So what do Arabella and Rafaela do? Let’s find out …
Arabella Pugh helped Florence prepare for her role in Lady Macbeth
Born in 1985, Arabella was the first child in the family, followed by Toby in 1992. The family lived in Oxfordshire until a few years after Florence’s birth in 1996, when they moved to southern Spain to help with Florence’s respiratory problems. Doctors had recommended a warmer climate for her health.
When they eventually moved back to Oxford, Arabella left to study English literature at the University of Bristol before pursuing a degree in theatre at the Oxford School of Drama. She continued her studies, earning a master of fine arts degree in voice studies at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2018.
“She is the only one who actually studied, so she’s the one with all the knowledge,” Florence quipped to The Guardian in 2018.
