Per People magazine, Brunt was born in Philadelphia and studied at Duke University, North Carolina. He later went to Georgetown University, where he earned his MBA. He was working for a money-market firm when he was hired as a consultant for government and military contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Brunt quickly made a name for himself, then started internet security firm Authentium, where he was president and CEO until 2011.

He’s a successful author

While running Authentium, Brunt commuted between New York and Florida and used the time to start writing. He said during a talk at Washington’s Politics and Prose bookshop that he used the writing as an outlet for his work frustrations. “We were walking in the park, strolling our son and Meg was observing, rightly, that I was snapping and short-tempered and not that happy. And it was related to work. So we talked about ways to change that.”

Brunt said he had been writing the draft of what would soon be his first novel and although he never thought he would turn it into a career, he knew writing was his passion. He decided to sell his company, found an agent and landed a book deal.
