Meet Sean Douglas, the son of Beetlejuice 2 star Michael Keaton: the Grammy-nominated songwriter has worked with Madonna, Dua Lipa, Meghan Trainor and Lizzo – and is a married father of 2

Despite being born to famous parents, Douglas carved a niche in the showbiz industry by using a different surname to that of his Batman star father … and keeps a low profile despite his success
“He’s all over, man,” Keaton said about his Grammy-nominated son. “He writes hip-hop. He writes country. He writes everything. And the thing that’s best about him in terms of his talent is, yes, it’s musical, and it’s fun, and he’s got a tremendous ear,” the Batman star told People.
He went on to enthuse about Douglas’ lyrical prowess, saying, “If you go back to the old classic guys from the 30s and 40s, those classic songwriters, there was always an element of irony, or funny, or clever. And he’s very, very – that’s the thing I like most about it.”

To this day, the Primetime Emmy-winning actor has “zero regret” about turning down lucrative roles to raise his only child. Douglas is now 41 and a father of two himself. But what else do we know about Keaton’s golden boy, whom he once called his “favourite project”?
How did Sean Douglas get into music?

Keaton once shared that his son gets his musical chops from his mother, who sang and played piano. Being the son of famous parents encouraged Douglas to pursue a career in music because it “exposed [him] to a whole world of people who used their imaginations and were creative for a living”, he said in an interview with BMI.
His parents supported him too, though without any pressure to enter the entertainment industry. “I think they saw how hard acting and entertainment can be, so they said, ‘You can be anything you want.’ And of course, I go and pick the one industry less stable than theirs,” he joked, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Douglas was a DJ and songwriter in his high school band. At Washington University in St Louis he sang and played keyboards with his band The Hatch while studying for his anthropology degree. While on campus, he also started composing and learning the secrets of music arrangement.
