Who is Ronan Day-Lewis? Daniel Day-Lewis’ second son is Arthur Miller’s grandson and a talented artist – and he’s bringing his father out of retirement to star in his new movie, Anemone

The younger Day-Lewis co-wrote the script for Anemone with his dad, then convinced him to star in it; away from the camera, he creates ‘punk Romantic’ art and spends time with his painter girlfriend
Three-time Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis will do anything for his children – even come out of retirement apparently. In 2017, the Phantom Thread star announced officially that he would no longer be acting. Seven years later, he’s decided to return to the entertainment industry to star in a new film, Anemone, which he co-wrote with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. The younger Day-Lewis will be directing his father in the film.
Leaving aside allegations of nepotism – casting Daniel Day-Lewis in one’s directorial debut is kind of a big deal – and concerns about Day-Lewis Jr’s relative inexperience, the casting seems rather fitting for a story reportedly about “the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers, and the dynamics of familial bonds”.
“We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator. They have written a truly exceptional script,” Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said. The film will also star acting legends Sean Bean and Samantha Morton, effectively making this film as high-profile as it gets.
