Tobey Maguire has been raising eyebrows over the last few days, after the Spider-Man actor was spotted leaving the star-studded White Party with 20-year-old model Lily Chee on the Fourth of July, as seen in pics from the event.

In the photos obtained by Backgrid, the 49-year-old actor is seen looking wide-eyed with his hand around Chee’s waist as they leave the famous Hamptons event hosted by Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin. It’s unclear whether they are romantically involved, but netizens have caught onto the fact that Chee is only three years older than Maguire’s 17-year-old daughter, Ruby, per People, which has made some spectators uncomfortable.

“His daughter is 17. So embarrassing …” wrote one user on Instagram, while another quipped, “Why [does] he [look] like he got caught?” It’s even led some netizens to compare Maguire to his good pal Leonardo DiCaprio, who is renowned for dating much younger women.

And now, his ex Jennifer Meyer is allegedly responding to the news. In a screenshot shared on Reddit, Meyer appears to have replied to a comment asking “why is your ex-husband banging someone three years younger than your daughter?” Meyer wrote, per the screenshot: “I don’t usually respond to such nonsense, but he was helping a friend get to her car.” She added, “Now he has been blasted for dating someone he is not.”

According to People, Maguire has been single since 2016, after splitting up with his wife of nine years, Jennifer Meyer. Not many people knew that they’d broken up years ago.

Meyer is the founder of her eponymous jewellery company based in Los Angeles. According to her bio on the website, she launched the brand after working in the communications department for brands like Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani.

Her grandmother Edith served as a huge inspiration to her work, according to Forbes. “She was an incredibly talented artist who shared her creativity with me from a young age and was a driving force in the launch of my jewellery line,” Meyer told the publication. Meyer’s pieces have been worn by celebrities including Meghan Markle, Jennifer Aniston, Joey King, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lawrence, Kaia Gerber, and many more.

As reported by Yahoo! Finance, Meyer met Maguire while he was shooting Seabiscuit at Universal Pictures. The source adds that Jennifer’s father Ronald Meyer was the president and COO of Universal Studios at the time.

Per People in 2016, the former couple had been living “separate lives” for years before filing for divorce in 2020. The source adds that they seemed to end on good terms, with Meyer calling Maguire her “best friend” in an Instagram post for Father’s Day in 2020.

In 2022, she seemed to confirm their break-up was amicable in an interview on The World’s First Podcast. “It’s been the most beautiful experience of my life having this beautiful break-up,” Meyer shared. “I can’t even explain. I would literally do anything in the world for Tobey. He is my brother. I love him to death and we have the most beautiful family.”
